چکیده

The 24-month results of the EVEREST II (Endovascular Valve Edge-to-Edge REpair Study), presented at the American College of Cardiology 2011 Scientific Sessions/i2 Summit and recently published (1), investigating the safety and efficacy of the MitraClip (Abbott Vascular, Santa Clara, California) device, validated the interest in percutaneous approaches to the treatment of mitral regurgitation (MR) compared with the current gold standard, which is surgical mitral valve repair or replacement (2). The MitraClip is a percutaneously inserted device that mimics the surgical edge-to-edge repair developed by Dr. Ottavio Alfieri in 1991, by attaching to the tips of the anterior and posterior mitral leaflets, securing them together to form a double-orifice mitral inlet, and thereby reducing the amount of regurgitation (3).

Percutaneous mitral valve repair for mitral regurgitation in high-risk patients: results of the EVEREST II study.

BACKGROUND The EVEREST II (Endovascular Valve Edge-to-Edge REpair STudy) High-Risk registry and REALISM Continued Access Study High-Risk Arm are prospective registries of patients who received the MitraClip device (Abbott Vascular, Santa Clara, California) for mitral regurgitation (MR) in the United States. Randomized Comparison of Percutaneous Repair and Surgery for Mitral Regurgitation: 5-Year Results of EVEREST II.

BACKGROUND In EVEREST II (Endovascular Valve Edge-to-Edge Repair Study), treatment of mitral regurgitation (MR) with a novel percutaneous device showed superior safety compared with surgery, but less effective reduction in MR at 1 year. OBJECTIVES This study sought to evaluate the final 5-year clinical outcomes and durability of percutaneous mitral valve (MV) repair with the MitraClip device ...

Percutaneous mitral repair with the MitraClip system: safety and midterm durability in the initial EVEREST (Endovascular Valve Edge-to-Edge REpair Study) cohort.

OBJECTIVES We undertook a prospective multicenter single-arm study to evaluate the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of the MitraClip system (Evalve Inc., Menlo Park, California). BACKGROUND Mitral valve repair for mitral regurgitation (MR) has been performed by the use of a surgically created double orifice. Percutaneous repair based on this surgical approach has been developed by use of the...

Cerebral Embolic Protection in Catheter-Based Mitral Interventions: Research or Clinical Tool?

T ranscatheter MitraClip (Abbott Vascular, Santa Clara, California) implantation has emerged as the single catheter-based technique for mitral valve repair with global adoption. Worldwide, an estimated 25,000 patients have been treated with the MitraClip so far. Typically, the incidence of major stroke after surgical mitral valve repair or replacement is similar to what is seen after surgical a...
